2007 Trap Catches for Codling Moth and Dogwood Borer at 5 Apple Orchards Monitored by the MN Departiment of Agriculture

Jean Ciborowski, MDA

These graphs show insect counts for codling moth (CM) and dogwood borer (DWB) at five apple orchards located in four different MN counties.  Codling moth (CM) is considered the most significant apple pest in Minnesota.  In addition, trapping results for DWB are presented as this is only the second year that the MDA has trapped extensively for this insect.  Trap counts are graphed in conjunction with the cumulative degree days (DD) to show how insect emergence depends upon the accumulation of these DD.  The graphs show two generations for CM except for at the Stearns county orchard and one generation for DWB at all orchards.  This information is consistent with the published data for Minnesota.

(*Number in Trap: For codling moth, the “number in trap” is an average for 2 traps and for dogwood borer the “number in trap” is the actual number in 1 trap.)
