2004 Resources for Growers

Bill Hutchison and Suzanne Wold-Burkness, Dept. of Entomology, University of Minnesota

1. 2004 Vegetable Production Guide: Copies of the 2004 Vegetable Production Guide are available at the Minnesota Extension Service Distribution Center. As in previous years, University of Minnesota specialists contributed to new changes for 2004, and plan to continue to support this 5-state regional publication in the future. However, due to state budget cuts we did not have hard copies printed with the Minnesota logo and were not able to send gratis copies to all regional offices. The publication continues to be an excellent choice for keeping up with the numerous label changes that occur each year.  The book also includes IPM recommendations for insect, pathogen and weed pests, as well as new pesticide registrations. The price of the guide for 2004 is $12.00, and can be ordered by phone, fax, or over the web.

To order your copy, call (612) 624-4900 or (800) 876-8636 and ask for BU-07094, or check the following web site: http://www.extension.umn.edu/abstracts/nonweb/abstract.html?item=07094

2. Strawberry and Apple IPM Manual and Field Guide for Minnesota Commercial Growers: The MDA has developed  field guides and IPM manuals for both strawberry and apple commercial growers. The field guide is a great reference tool to have in the field, and covers the major insect and diseases encountered in Minnesota. The IPM manual is more comprehensive, and covers insect, disease, and weed management, in addition to providing a calendar of critical events for each crop.

To download either the apple or strawberry IPM manual go to the following website:

Strawberry Field Guide: http://www.mda.state.mn.us/ipm/strawberryfg/default.htm
Apple Field Guide: http://www.mda.state.mn.us/ipm/applefg/default.htm
Strawberry IPM Manual: http://www.mda.state.mn.us/ipm/berrymanual/default.htm
Apple IPM Manual: http://www.mda.state.mn.us/ipm/applemanual/default.htm

To order either the field guide or IPM manual, please contact Jeanne Ciborowski at 651-297-3217, or email at Jeanne.Ciborowski@state.mn.us. Please note that there are limited copies available, and they are only available to commercial growers in the state of Minnesota.
