Summary: Cold weather from May 11 to May 15 slowed strawberry development. Most metro area strawberry growers will not see full bloom until the fourth week of May. In central and northern Minnesota, cool weather has also slowed canopy development. Plants are still quite short, with few leaves, while flower buds have not yet emerged from the crowns.

The cool weather does not appear to have slowed down insect pests as much as the strawberry plants. We have already started catching clipper weevil adults and tarnished plant bug nymphs in southern Minnesota before bloom.
