Strawberry Sampling Data from MDA and Grower Cooperators
*Sampling is done using standard sampling techniques for each pest. ** Plants are at about 50% bloom. *** Plants are at about 80% bloom and 5% fruit set. Data collected at a given cooperator site is a snap-shot” of that particular field and does not represent other fields in that area.
Strawberry Insect Pest Information from Strawberry IPM Project CooperatorsThaddeus McCamant, Specialty Crops Management Specialist, Northland Community & Technical College Summary: Strawberry plants started blooming across the state during the week of May 23. Some varieties are approaching full bloom in southern Minnesota. In northern and central Minnesota, the Cavendish and Annapolis are starting to bloom, but other varieties are still in the early bud stage. As the fields begin to bloom, carefully monitor your plants. Clipper weevils are starting to damage strawberry plants even in fields that are still four days away from 10% bloom. The tarnished plant bug nymphs are also hatching early, and approached threshold levels in several fields that were only at 10% bloom.
* Nothing to check, strawberries still not developed.
