Strawberry Insect Pest Information from Strawberry IPM Project Cooperators

Thaddeus McCamant, Specialty Crops Management Specialist, Northland Community & Technical College

Summary: Strawberry plants in southern Minnesota are approaching full bloom. In northern Minnesota, most fields are at about 10% bloom.

Pest pressure varies a great deal from one field to the next. Many fields have both tarnished plant bugs nymphs and adults, while other fields have none. Other fields have exceeded the threshold for clipper damage but have no tarnished plant bugs. Clipper damage is most concentrated in older fields. Very few fields in their first year of production have any clipper damage.

So far this spring, there have been very few thrips in the strawberry blossoms. In one field, I found one thrips adult.
