Strawberry Insect Pest Information from Strawberry IPM Project Cooperators

Thaddeus McCamant, Specialty Crops Management Specialist, Northland Community & Technical College

Summary: Strawberry plants in southern and central Minnesota are past full bloom. Most people throughout the state have already sprayed their fields for either tarnished plant bug or clipper weevil. The number of tarnished plant bugs in sprayed fields remains very low, even two weeks after the first spray. Several people have remained well below threshold for both tarnished plant bug and clipper and did not spray, and their pest numbers dropped this week. Also, thrip numbers remain very low in all fields. Note - Conditions this past week were ideal for gray mold development in most parts of the state
