Apple and Strawberry Insect Pests to Be Monitored In 2008 by the MDAThe Minnesota Department of Agriculture (MDA) apple and strawberry insect monitoring program will focus on seven apple insects and three strawberry insects in 2008. Data will be collected from traps monitored by MDA staff and from self-monitoring orchard cooperators. The apple insect pests that will be monitored include: apple maggot, codling moth, dogwood borer, lesser appleworm, obliquebanded leafroller, redbanded leafroller, and spotted tentiform leafminer. More information on these apple pests is available in: Field Guide for Identification of Pest Insects, Diseases, and Beneficial Organisms in Minnesota Apple Orchards, and Integrated Pest Management Manual for Minnesota Apple Orchard. The strawberry insect pests that will be monitored include: strawberry bud weevil, tarnished plant bug, and thrips. These pests are only monitored by the MDA.
