National Drought Monitor

Provided by Cindy Tong, Co-Editor, Department of Horticultural Science, University of Minnesota

Concerned about drought in Minnesota? The Drought Mitigation Center maintains a Web site that monitors the drought situation throughout the United States. You can access this site at: http://enso.unl.edu/monitor/monitor.html. According to the Web site, drought is predicted for most of Minnesota. As of Thursday, March 28, a central swath of Minnesota from Lake of the Woods south to the Iowa border is considered to be in the first stage of drought. Severe drought is predicted for southwestern Minnesota, while northeastern and northwestern Minnesota from approximately St. Louis County to Dakota County are considered abnormally dry. Only the Arrowhead is free from drought. The Web site is updated every Thursday at 10 AM Central Standard Time.
