Pesticide Updates: Nova Labeled for Cucurbits, Snap Beans, etc.Provided by: Laurie Hodges,
Vegetable Specialist, Dept. of Horticulture and Agronomy, University of
Nebraska, Lincoln, NE. (and Farm to Market Newsletter, NE). EPA recently registered NOVA for powdery mildew control on cucurbits (all melons, pumpkins, and squash). It is a wettable powder, which has been labeled for several years for tree fruits. It will only control powdery mildew and a very few other diseases on other vegetables and fruits. Application rates are 2.5 to 5.0 oz/a on cucurbits every 7 to 10 days with a maximum of 5 applications at the high rate. For effective control, spraying must begin as soon as powdery mildew is seen on cucurbit plants. There is a 24 hr re-entry period but no pre-harvest interval. The complete label is at : http://www.cdms.net/ldat/ld697006.pdf Nova is also registered for use on grapes, strawberries, and tomatoes (for powdery mildew) and snap beans (for rust). Editors Note: All other insecticide, fungicide and herbicide label updates will be included in the 2001 version of the Midwest Vegetable Guide for Commercial Growers. This book is usually available the first week of January. We will keep you posted regarding availability and how to order. |
