Snap Beans and Peppers |
Snap Beans and PeppersBill Hutchison, Department of Entomolgy, University of Minnesota ECB and CEW counts are also high enough to cause damage to snap beans, lima beans and peppers. Although, the overall attraction to these crops will be less if sweet corn is nearby, these crops should also be watched closely. Snap beans, beginning in the bud stage (ca. 25 days before harvest) up to 7 days before harvest, should be protected with insecticide. Reminder: Penncap-M is NO LONGER labeled for snap beans (see FQPA update, August, 1999). Orthene followed by two Capture sprays will likely remain as one of the best overall spray programs for this crop. Based on a 3-year study by Dr. Celeste Welty, Ohio State University (see reference ), an action threshold of just ONE ECB moth/night, in a light trap, was necessary to minimize damage to the fruit. |
