Upper Midwest Fruit and Vegetable Growers Conference, February 2001Marilyn Nysetvold Johnson,
Exec. Coordinator, Minn. Fruit & Vegetable Growers Assoc. Mark your calendars now! February 1-3, 2001, St. Cloud, MN! The Upper Midwest Regional Fruit and Vegetable Growers Conference will be held at the St. Cloud Civic Center, in St. Cloud, MN on February 1-3, 2001. The Trade Show will be held on Thursday and Friday, February 1 & 2. Educational sessions covering strawberry, blueberry and raspberry production are planned. The basics of grape production will also be covered. Vegetable topics include sweet corn, cole crops, tomatoes and peppers, unique and specialty vegetables and pumpkins. Sessions are also planned on greenhouse structures and operation as well as greenhouse crops and ornamentals. Other sessions will focus on apples and herbs. Growers who produce for farmers markets, CSAs (Community Supported Agriculture) and roadside stands will be interested in Fridays sessions on managing a diversity of crops and direct marketing. Rounding out the program will be sessions on setting up a kitchen and various business topics. The IPM Scout School will also be back this year, by Bill Hutchison (vegetable insects) and Roger Becker (weed management) Watch for the full program and registration information in future issues of this newsletter. The educational conference is sponsored by the Minnesota Fruit and Vegetable Growers Association, the University of Minnesota Extension Service, the Minnesota Department of Agriculture and the North Dakota State University Extension Service. |
