Plan now to attend the 2001 Vegetable IPM Field Day, sponsored by the University of Minnesota Extension Service, MN Pesticide Survey and Impact Program (PSI), the Minn. Fruit and Vegetable Growers Association, and the Minnesota Dept. of Agriculture IPM Program.

The 2001 field day will be held at the UofM Rosemount Research and Outreach Center Dakota Co., East-central Minn., ( http://rroc.coafes.umn.edu/ ) Wednesday, August 22, 2001. The field day will provide a unique opportunity for Vegetable Processors, Fresh-market growers, as well as Crop Protection and Seed Company reps. to view numerous IPM and Biological Control Research studies in progress.

Highlights include:

  • Sweet Corn: Corn borer, Corn Earworm and Aphid control (Bill Hutchison)
  • Seed Treatment updates, Snap Beans and Sweet corn (Eric Burkness and Hutchison)
  • MDA IPM Demonstration Project—Cabbage and Cucurbits (Burkness and Hutchison)
  • Potatoes: Aphid and Potato Leafhopper control; Biological control (Munyaneza/Ragsdale)
  • Soil Fertility Research in Cabbage and Potatoes (Becker results; Carl Rosen)
  • New 100 Acre Overhead Irrigation/Vegetable IPM Partnership with UofM, Pahl’s Farms (Hutchison and Gary Pahl)
  • Milkweed, Corn, Monarchs and the Asian Ladybeetle-New connections (R. Koch)

**Plus….opportunities to view blacklight and pheromone traps, hands-on insect identification, BugWeb Updates, IPM Information, and new pest developments.
