1-- Midwest Vegetable Production Guide for 2002 (BU-7094-S): The latest edition of the 2002 Vegetable Production Guide for MN (and surrounding Midwest States) is available from the Minnesota Extension Service Distribution Center. This Guide, is the product of multiple extension specialists in the Midwest Region (IN, IL, IA, MN and MO), and provides the most recent research-based pest management recommendations, pest thresholds, and label changes for herbicides, insecticides and fungicides. The guide also provides considerable general production information regarding seeding rates, plant spacing, variety selection and fertility recommendations.

Several updates and changes for the 2002 Production Guide include:

New and Revised Sections:

  • Tables listing labeled pesticides have been modified to show pre-harvest intervals and re-entry intervals for each pesticide
  • Nematode management section revised
  • New section on Chemigation

Disease Management

  • Revised table summarizing disease management strategies
  • Expanded label for Actigard 50WG; see Salad and Green Crops.
  • Expanded label for Flint WDG; Pepper and Tomato
  • Expanded label for Omega 500F; Potato
  • Pea disease section has been expanded.
  • Changes have been made to many rates, pre-harvest interval (PHI), and re-entry intervals for several fungicides, and resistance management strategies

Weed Management

  • Command 3 ME labeled for pre-plant application in cabbage, cucumber, muskmelon, snap bean, squash, sweet potato, watermelon.
  • Select now labeled for post-emergence grass control in carrot, cucumber, eggplant, muskmelon, pepper, potato, pumpkin, squash, watermelon.

Insect Management

  • Confirm 2F now labeled for cole crops (broccoli, Brussels sprouts, cabbage, cauliflower).
  • Leverage, now labeled for cole crops, potatoes.
  • Proclaim, now labeled for cole crops, celery, lettuce
  • Platinum 2S and Actara 25 WDG Admire label expanded to include several soil application methods in cucurbits, eggplant, peppers, tomatoes, potato
  • Mustang label added/revised for sweet corn.
  • Vydate on celery; PHI changed from 14 to 21 days.
  • Changes in PHIs for many older insecticides
  • Larvin 3.2EC updates for sweet corn.
  • Gaucho 480 for sweet corn and snap beans.
  • Deletions: Diazinon removed from snap beans, celery, cucumber, pepper, potato, greens, squash, turnips. Di-Syston deleted from tomatoes.
