New Risk Management Publication for Specialty Crop Growers

Bill Hutchison, Dept. of Entomology, University of Minnesota, St. Paul, Minn.

A new publication entitled, "Risk Management Toolbox for Specialty Crop Growers," was just released in April, and authored by Rod Elmstrand, Terry Nennich, University of Minnesota Extension Service. The toolbox was also produced in cooperation with the Farm Service Agency, and Risk Management Agency. The pocket guide includes a tab for easy filing, and introduces specialty crop growers to an understanding of the USDA's Noninsured Crop Disaster Program (NAP). The guide provides sound risk management strategies, fact sheets on how to keep reliable and verifiable records, and assistance in understanding and determining Actual Production History (APH),...and more. The publication includes on-farm examples, making it easy to understand concepts and the process.

This publication is available on the web, or can be ordered on-line, at: http://www.extension.umn.edu/catalog/item.html?item=07721
