Corn Earworm Moth Flight
Takes Off!
Suzanne J. Wold, Research Fellow, Department of
Entomology, University of Minnesota
We have observed a recent, significant increase in the corn
earworm (CEW) moth catch in our pheromone traps. Specifically, the Blue
Earth (Faribault Co.) location reported 82 moths (avg. of 2 traps) caught
August 18, and 45 at Rosemount (Dakota Co.) on August 21. This is a clear
indication that the late season CEW flight is underway. On late planted sweet
corn, with the heat that we are experiencing, growers may have to tighten up
their spray interval to 5 days for fresh-silking sweet corn.
To view updated graphs of the CEW moth flight for Blue
Earth, Rosemount and additional locations, please go to the following link:

All locations are updated 1-2 times per week.
