ECB Moth Flight, 2003

Eric Burkness and Suzanne Wold, Dept. of Entomology, University of Minnesota, St. Paul, Minn.

Egg lay is just beginning around the state. In Rosemount, MN (Dakota Co.), we found an infestation of <1% on 17" extended leaf corn. Observations from our black light trapping indicate that ECB have reached the peak of the 1st generation flight (peak=630 DD; see graph, below), with 640 DD at Rosemount. Moth catch across the state increased the second week of June, but this may not reflect the peak moth catch (see graph, below). Even though the ECB moth catch at St. James was over 200 on the 6th of June, moth catch was increasing rapidly as of June 12th.

For continuous updates of ECB moth flight data, view the "2003 Moth Flight Update".
