In this issue: European Corn Borer Flight Update Potato Leafhopper and Bean Leaf Beetle Update |
European Corn Borer Moth Flight UpdateBill Hutchison, Suzanne Wold, Patrick O'Rourke, University of Minnesota, St. Paul The first generation ECB moth flight (2-generation strain), for light trap captures throughout Minnesota are summarized in the following two graphs (below). For selected locations (e.g., Jeffers, Trimont), there is also evidence of the beginning of the univoltine flight (one generation per year), that has gradually been spreading throughout southern Minnesota, the past 8 years. At most locations, the 1st generation flight was low to normal. These graphs are updated 1-2 times per week, and can be viewed on VegEdge at:http://www.vegedge.umn.edu/2003/moth.htm. This site also includes moth flight updates for Corn earworm and Western bean cutworm. Thus, far we have not detected significant flights of CEW or WBC in Minnesota. WBC flights should be active in July. CEW flights should begin in Blue Earth and Owatonna areas by July 20th; at Rosemount, and central MN, CEW flights do not usually begin to increase until early-mid August.
